Viet Nam urges Netherlands to soon ratify EVIPA

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh urges the Netherlands to soon ratify the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) in a bid to facilitate Netherlands' investment in the Southeast Asian country.

The Government chief raised the point at his meeting with President of the Dutch Senate Anthonie Bruijn and Speaker of the Dutch House of Representatives Vera Bergkamp in The Hague on December 12.

He also suggested the Dutch parliament support the European Commission's early removal of "yellow card" against Vietnamese seafood exports and mull over the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group to strengthen trust and understanding between the two countries' legislative bodies.

Pham affirmed the Government of Viet Nam always attaches importance and wishes to further strengthen the comprehensive partnership in all fields with the Netherlands.

He noted with pleasure that the bilateral ties have been growing well politics-diplomacy, trade and security-defense, expressing his hope that both countries would accelerate their partnerships in climate change and sustainable agriculture.

Prime Minister Pham called on Dutch investors to invest in digital transformation, green transition, food security, energy security, and climate change in Viet Nam.

He took the occasion to share Viet Nam's efforts in climate change, which include capacity building, institutional reform, investment in strategic infrastructure development, education, and international cooperation with the Netherlands being a key partner.

Both Bruijn and Bergkamp spoke highly of close cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, voicing their support for Viet Nam to play a bridging role in stepping up relations between the Dutch parliament and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Both sides agreed to step up the exchange of parliamentary delegations to share information and experience in policy-making and supreme supervision, contributing to reinforcing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Pham conveyed the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue to the President of Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to visit Viet Nam./.
