Prime Minister attends Viet Nam-Netherlands Business Forum
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh briefed about recent developments in Viet Nam in his remarks at the Viet Nam-Netherlands Business Forum in The Hague on December 12.
From a war-torn country, Viet Nam has embarked on the path of reform to gain significant and historic achievements, said Prime Minister Pham.
The size of the economy is estimated to reach nearly US$400 billion by the end of this year while the GDP per capita rose to US$4,000 in 2021.
Viet Nam has become one of the top 20 economies in the world in terms of international trade, with the export-import value totaling around US$750 billion.
Thanks to good management of the COVID-19 pandemic, Viet Nam has reopened the economy from November last year. In the first 11 months this year, foreign investment inflows reached US$25,1 billion while disbursed volume increased by 15 percent on year to nearly US$20 billion.
Regarding the Viet Nam-Netherlands relations, Pham noted with pleasure that the relationship has grown well across fields, particularly bilateral cooperation has shifted from assistance and aid to equal and win-win cooperation.
The Netherlands is Viet Nam's largest investor and second biggest trading partner in the European Union, said Pham, adding that many Dutch products such as Heineken (beer) and Dutch Lady (milk) have become familiar with Vietnamese consumers.
Viet Nam has signed 15 free trade agreements involving more than 60 countries and territories, including the biggest economies in the world, and maintained political stability and friendly relations with other countries, Prime Minister Pham emphasized.
He affirmed that Viet Nam upholds multilateralism and international solidarity and calls for an approach that ensures justice and fairness in dealing with climate change issue.
Pham suggested development partners and foreign investors to assist the Southeast Asian country in developing a clean energy sector and exploiting its great wind and solar power potential.
The Prime Minister also called on Dutch enterprises to pour investment capital in such priority areas like digital transformation and green transition.
At the forum, Prime Minister Pham witnessed the signing of several cooperation deals between the two countries' businesses and agencies./.
