Viet Nam, Germany underline importance of ensuring peace, stability in East Sea
VGP – Viet Nam and Germany agreed on the need to maintain peace, stability, cooperation and development as well as respect for international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, in the East Sea.
The agreement was reached during phone conversation between Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz on Thursday.
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, the Vietnamese Party chief reaffirmed Viet Nam's consistent policy of respecting the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.
Nguyen expected the parties concerned to step up dialogue and negotiations to end hostilities and restore peace.
On bilateral relations, the Party leader reiterated Viet Nam, in pursuance of its foreign policy, attaches importance to the strategic partnership with Germany.
He suggested both countries lift up bilateral cooperation in investment, trade, science and technology, education and training, defense and security to new heights and fully tap the opportunities brought by the European Union-Viet Nam free trade agreement.
Nguyen took the occasion to invite Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit Viet Nam and the latter accepted the invitation with pleasure.
Olaf Scholz congratulated on Viet Nam's development achievements and its role and position on the international arena.
The German Chancellor affirmed that his country treasures the growing strategic partnership with Viet Nam./.
