Since joining APEC in 1998, Viet Nam has made meaningful contributions to the forum. The country has twice hosted APEC (in 2006 and 2017) and put forward more than 190 initiatives spanning structural reform, human resources development, climate change response, women's empowerment, rural–urban development, food security, and e-commerce. Viet Nam has also been deeply engaged in developing APEC's long-term vision.
Preparations are well underway for APEC 2027, with Phu Quoc – a major tourist hub in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang – chosen as a key venue.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to South Korea Vu Ho, Viet Nam's proactive involvement at this year's summit reaffirms its dedication to regional economic integration, while strengthening its leadership in shaping the future direction of APEC cooperation.
As the nation prepares to host APEC in 2027, it is also demonstrating its dynamic growth and expanding partnerships with major economies, including the U.S., Japan, and South Korea.
Viet Nam's deepening global integration—highlighted by its participation in high-standard free trade agreements such as CPTPP, EVFTA, and RCEP—has bolstered trade and investment flows with APEC members, thus elevating its influence within the region.
The APEC Leaders' Week 2025 in South Korea will be another key opportunity for Viet Nam to contribute to collective efforts toward sustainable and inclusive growth, benefitting both people and businesses across the Asia-Pacific, said Ambassador Vu Ho.
Themed "Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper," APEC 2025 will focus on cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), demographic transitions, and the cultural industries. The summit will serve as an essential platform for economic leaders to address emerging challenges, advance sustainable development, and foster innovation across the region./.
