Viet Nam prepares for APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc island
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday chaired a meeting with leaders of several ministries, sectors and Kien Giang province to discuss preparations for the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

The event drew the participation of Deputy Prime Ministers Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, Ho Duc Phoc, and Bui Thanh Son, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, and leaders of Kien Giang province.
The Southern province of Kien Giang has proposed investing in more than 40 key projects to support APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Phu Quoc island city, with total estimated budget of over US$11.9 billion.
Underscoring the importance of good preparation for APEC 2027, Pham tasked Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung to handle issues related to infrastructure, facilities and logistics.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son was assigned to take prime responsibility for contents and programs of the event while Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha was tasked to oversee issues on land and forest.
The Government leader also voiced support for a plan to build a convention center in Phu Quoc, a museum and an exhibition hall to immediately serve the APEC Year and to promote tourism in the long run.
During his March 2024 visit to Phu Quoc, Pham directed the local authorities to accelerate key projects, including waste treatment, clean water supply, wastewater management, airport upgrades, urban beautification, and road expansions, aiming to transform Phu Quoc into a modern, sustainable, and smart international tourism destination.
The Government will focus investments on critical public works such as roads and water reservoirs, while commercial projects like the airport, convention center, resorts, and golf courses will be developed through public-private partnerships and socialized investment./.
