Viet Nam actively promotes collaboration with UK, Hong Kong and Lithuania
VGP - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had separate meetings with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development in Hong Kong (China) and Lithuanian FM on the sidelines of the OECD meeting in Paris, France on June 7.
At the meeting with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly, Bui expected that the UK Government would continue providing assistance for Viet Nam in terms of finance, technology and capacity building within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership.
He suggested the UK work with and advocate Viet Nam to successfully work as co-chairs of OECD's Southeast Asia Regional Program, including giving priority to boosting economic rebound and reform and help Southeast Asian nations to get closer to OECD's standards.
Cleverly showed respect for the increasingly important role of Viet Nam in the region, speaking highly of Viet Nam's economic development achievements.
The UK hopes to deepen its relationship with Viet Nam, particularly in fields of defense-security, green economy and renewable energy, he stated.
In the context of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the two diplomats pledged to launch measures to foster collaboration across all sectors, promoting the Viet Nam-UK Strategic partnership more intensively, effectively and substantively, serving for realizing sustainable development goals and coping global and regional challenges.
They vowed to continue bolster coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, including cooperation within the framework of the OECD.
During his meeting with Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development in Hong Kong Algernon Yau Ying-wah, the Vietnamese leader noted that Hong Kong is currently the seventh largest trade partner of Viet Nam, the fifth biggest foreign direct investment (FDI) source while Viet Nam is the seventh largest trade partner of Hong Kong, and the second biggest among the ASEAN countries.
Bui proposed both sides increase delegation exchanges between the two authorities, localities, businesses and people.
He suggested Hong Kong make it easier in the process of granting entry visas to Vietnamese citizens and businessmen and launch a pilot study to receive Vietnamese workers to work in Hong Kong as well as encourage more investors in the territory to join investment and trade promotion activities in Viet Nam.
He called on Hong Kong to increase imports of Viet Nam's agro-aquatic-forestry products, garments and footwear and advocate Vietnamese enterprises to carry out investment, trade and tourism promotion activities in Hong Kong.
Algernon Yau asserted that business giants in Hong Kong hail Viet Nam's investment and business environment, expecting to get access and seek for further opportunities in the country in areas of technology and innovation.
Hong Kong will play a bridging role for Vietnamese firms to operate in the Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou and Shenzhen), he underscored.
