Vietnamese disabled sports delegation to attend ASEAN Para Games 12
VGP - A ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 17 to send off the Vietnamese team competing in the 12th ASEAN Para Games scheduled to take place in Cambodia from June 3-9.
The event was co-hosted by the Viet Nam Sports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Culture and Sports and the Viet Nam Paralympic Association.
The team, led by Deputy Director General of the General Department of Physical Education and Sports Nguyen Hong Minh, consists of 164 members, including 16 officials, 21 coaches and 127 athletes.
The athletes will compete in 8 out of 13 sports at the regional tournament, namely track-and-field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and boccia.
The Vietnamese delegation has outstanding athletes such as Le Van Cong, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan, Dang Thi Linh Phuong (weightlifting), Cao Ngoc Hung, and Nguyen Thi Hai (athletics).
Over the past time, 8 Vietnamese sports teams have prepared carefully regarding expertise, tactics and physical strength to attend the 12th ASEAN Para Games.
Specifically, three teams of athletics, swimming and weightlifting received long-term training at the National Sports Training Centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Meanwhile, five other groups also have professional preparation when training in localities.
ASEAN Para Games 12 is an excellent opportunity for Vietnamese players to show their strong will to overcome their obstacles. At the same time, it helps athletes affirm their desire to win, integrate and contribute to their country's sports.
The Vietnam Disabled People's Sports Delegation strives to get from 50 to 55 Gold medals and enter the top 4 countries in the medal table at this congress./.
