The deal was signed in Moscow on Monday following the summit meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

"Creation of the nuclear plant will give a strong impetus to development of cooperation in adjacent areas - high technologies, fundamental and applied research," Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin told his Vietnamese counterpart.

The National Assembly of Viet Nam approved the Government's proposal to restart the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project at its 8th working session held in November 2024 in a bid to firmly ensure national energy security.

The project involves building two nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 400MW in former NinhThuan province, now Khanh Hoa province in central Viet Nam.

The Government estimates that power consumption will increase by 12-13percent in 2025 and reach 1,200 billion kWh by 2045 compared to 1,000 billion kWh in the 8th National Power Development Plan./.
