Viet Nam, Italy strengthen cooperation in justice and crime prevention
VGP - Minister of Public Security General To Lam had bilateral meetings with Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, as part of the Vietnamese official's visit to Italy from July 17-19.

At the meeting with Piantedosi, the two ministers highlighted the results of cooperation between the two ministries, particularly since the signing of an agreement on collaboration in crime combat in 2014.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security sent many officials to Italy to join training courses on crime combat held by the Interior Ministry and others on peacekeeping financed by the Italian government.
On this occasion, Minister To expressed his pleasure to visit Italy on the occasion of the two countries' 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations (1973-2023) and ten years of strategic partnership (2013-2023).
Over the past 50 years, the relationship between the two countries has developed actively, comprehensively and deepened in all fields.
The two countries have enhanced substantive, practical cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economy, national defense and security, science-technology, culture and education, and connectivity between their localities through high-ranking delegation exchanges and cooperation mechanisms.
At the meeting with Nordio, the Vietnamese official spoke highly of the Italian government's inclusion of Viet Nam into the 20 priority countries for trade and investment cooperation this year.
He also appreciated the country's issuance of a new strategy to boost development collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), creating favorable conditions for the two countries to elevate their relations to a new height.
For its part, Viet Nam stands ready to serve as a bridge between Italy and ASEAN, help Italy participate in cooperation mechanisms in Asia-Pacific, and support the country in multilateral forums.
Along with the "Agreement on cooperation in the fight against crime" between Viet Nam and Italy in 2014, the "Extradition Agreement" and "Agreement on the transfer of people sentenced to prison", signed on this occasion, are of significant importance for the two countries to advance cooperation in crime prevention and control.
Minister Nordio suggested the two sides soon complete their procedures to put the newly signed agreements into effect, increase high-ranking delegation exchanges, and share information and experience in crime combat, to name but a few./.
