Viet Nam is trusted friend of Russia: State Duma Chairman
VGP - Viet Nam is a comprehensive strategic partner and a trusted friend of Russia in Southeast Asia, reiterated Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin during his meeting with General Secretary To Lam in Moscow, on May 10.

Volodin highlighted the significance of To's ongoing Russia visit, which takes place at a time both countries are commemorating major historical events, noting that the Victory in the Great Patriotic War contributed to Viet Nam's struggle for independence and freedom in 1945.
The State Duma is always proud of the loyal and steadfast relationship between Russia and Viet Nam, he stated, adding that the General Secretary's visit would further deepen the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations, including cooperation between the two legislative bodies.
Volodin affirmed that all parties in the Duma advocate Viet Nam and are committed to strengthening cooperation with the Southeast Asian country.
To, for his part, highly appreciated the role of the State Duma within the political system of the Russian Federation, as well as its active contributions to the Viet Nam–Russia parliamentary cooperation and the bilateral ties in recent years.
He affirmed that the Party, State, and people of Viet Nam always bear in mind the valuable support offered the people of the former Soviet Union and the Russian people today for Viet Nam's struggle for national independence, as well as its current nation-building efforts.
Viet Nam places great importance on, and wishes to continuously advance its relations with Russia, in which the parliamentary channel plays a practical role in promoting and monitoring the implementation of intergovernmental agreements, while also deepening mutual understanding and trust between the two countries, stressed To.
The two leaders underlined the need to foster stronger ties between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the State Duma of Russia by regularly maintaining high-level delegation exchanges, and interactions between friendship parliamentary groups and specialized committees, as well as promoting the exchange of legislative experience and improving the legal framework to facilitate the expansion of bilateral cooperation.
They emphasized the important role of the two countries' parliaments in supporting efforts to step up collaboration in the fields of economy–trade, investment, energy, education and training, people-to-people exchanges, and local-to-local cooperation. Both sides stressed the need to remove procedural barriers and creating favorable conditions for their citizens to live, study, and work in each other's soil.
The two leaders agreed to enhance youth exchanges to preserve and carry forward the tradition of the long-standing friendship between Viet Nam and Russia.
They also discussed measures to accelerate coordination at multilateral parliamentary forums, thereby expressing a unified voice in support of peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and around the world.
To took the occasion to respectfully convey the greetings and best wishes of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and other senior leaders of Viet Nam to Chairman of the State Duma Volodin and senior Russian leaders.
He also extended an invitation to Volodin to to visit Viet Nam to co-chair the 4th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee between the National Assembly of Viet Nam and the State Duma of Russia, slated for September this year./.
