Viet Nam among 25 fastest growing populations
VGP - Viet Nam was ranked 19th among 25 countries with the largest absolute population increases, with its population rising by 23 million people between 2000 and 2025, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The ranking highlights two very different patterns of global population growth between 2000 and 2025.
On one hand, several smaller or resource-rich countries such as Qatar and United Arab Emirates recorded the fastest growth rates in percentage terms, reflecting rapid urbanization, migration, and economic expansion.
On the other hand, the largest absolute increases are concentrated in populous nations like India, China, and Nigeria, where even moderate growth rates translate into tens or hundreds of millions of additional people.
Notably, Viet Nam appears among the countries with significant absolute growth, adding around 23 million people over the period.
Overall, the chart underscores a key demographic insight: high percentage growth does not always mean the largest population gains, and global population expansion is increasingly driven by a mix of demographic momentum in large countries and rapid development in smaller ones./.
