U.S. Trade Representative describes virtual meeting with Vietnamese chief negotiator "productive"
)VGP - The recent virtual meeting between U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) Nguyen Hong Dien was productive, according to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).

The readout released by USTR the on April 24 after the virtual meeting wrote that Greer discussed next steps between USTR and MOIT following President Trump's call with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam To Lam on April 4.
Both sides agreed on the importance of making swift progress towards reciprocal and balanced trade between the U.S. and Viet Nam.
The ministers instructed their teams to engage in technical discussions in the coming days to expand market access and address unfair trade practices.
The meeting came as the Trump Administration has delayed implementing reciprocal tariffs on a number of trade partners, including Viet Nam, for a 90-day period. In the meantime, a temporary 10 percent tariff remains in effect.
Previously, on April 12, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh appointed Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien as head of the Vietnamese delegation to negotiate with the U.S. on a reciprocal trade deal.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Viet Nam stands ready to negotiate with the U.S. to reduce the tariffs on U.S. exports to Viet Nam to 0 percent, and requested the U.S. to do the same for Vietnamese exports to the U.S.
