Top Vietnamese legislator holds talks with Malaysian Senate President

Tran expressed strong support for the "Sustainability and Inclusivity" theme of ASEAN 2025 and pledged to work closely with Malaysia—ASEAN Chair in 2025 and AIPA-46 President—along with other ASEAN member states to realize the bloc's priorities. He also briefed his host on Viet Nam's progress in institutional reform, law-making, administrative streamlining, the merger of provincial-level administrative units, and the implementation of a two-tier local administration model.
Both leaders commended the flourishing bilateral relations over the past 50 years, underscored by the elevation of ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in November 2024. They agreed to bolster political trust, increase exchanges, expand economic, trade and investment cooperation, remove legal bottlenecks to facilitate Malaysian investment in Viet Nam, develop the Halal industry, jointly address illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides also committed to deepening legislative cooperation through enhanced exchanges at all levels, stronger links between specialized committees, parliamentary friendship groups, as well as female and young parliamentarians. They further agreed to step up coordination in overseeing bilateral agreements, particularly the implementation of the Viet Nam–Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership and its accompanying action program.
Chairman Tran urged Malaysia to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the country and to adopt a humanitarian approach in handling Vietnamese fishermen and fishing vessels.
For his part, Ali Basah thanked the Vietnamese NA for its support to the Malaysian Parliament during its AIPA-46 Chairmanship and to Malaysia in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working with other ASEAN members to build a united, inclusive, and resilient ASEAN, uphold the bloc's centrality—especially on the East Sea issue—and contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and development.
On this occasion, Chairman Tran invited the Malaysian Senate President to visit Viet Nam, and Ali Basah gladly accepted the invitation./.
