Rice export turnover sets new record high

VGP - As of November 15, Viet Nam's rice exports reached a record high of US$5.05 billion, according to the General Department of Viet Nam Customs.

In the first half of November, the Southeast Asian nation shipped 293,484 tons of rice abroad, bringing the total rice export to 8.05 million tons so far this year.

Rice export saw year-on-year increases of 9.16 percent in quantity and 21.49 percent in value, respectively.

Rice price hikes up around 12 percent against the same period last year to hover around US$626 per ton.

The Philippines remains the biggest rice importer of Viet Nam by occupying 46.93 percent of total rice export with 3.64 million, followed by Indonesia (14.4 percent) and Malaysia (8.5 percent).

On the other hand, Viet Nam's rice import experienced a sharp increase of 73 percent from the same period last year. In the first ten months of 2024, Viet Nam spent US$1.2 billion to import 3.2 tons of rice./.
