Prime Minister urges Indonesia to sign rice trade cooperation agreement
VGP – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh urged Indonesia to soon sign an agreement on rice trade cooperation with Viet Nam during his meeting with Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto in Ha Noi on September 14.
Viet Nam stands ready to cooperate with and support Indonesia to ensure food security, Prime Minister Pham reaffirmed.
He also suggested Indonesia facilitate the access of Vietnamese agricultural products and Halal goods to Indonesian market and support Viet Nam's efforts in removing the European Commission's "yellow card" warning against Vietnamese seafood exports.
President-elect Subianto, who is on a two-day working visit to Viet Nam, extended his deepest condolences over the serious consequences caused by typhoon Yagi.
He expressed his admiration for the indomitable spirit and resilience of the Vietnamese people in their struggle for national independence in the past and the national construction and development course at present.
Subianto affirmed he really treasures and will spare no effort to promoting the bilateral traditional friendship and strategic partnership across various fields.
The President-elect said Indonesia wishes to accelerate cooperation with Viet Nam in such fields like food security, energy security and high-tech agriculture, calling on Viet Nam to share its experience in agricultural development with his country.
The two leaders highlighted the importance of encouraging and facilitating investments in new areas such as the digital economy, green economy, energy transition, and the development of electric vehicle ecosystems; and speeding up the signing of agreements on technical training and digital economy.
They also agreed to deepen cooperation in important areas, including defense and security, maritime and fisheries cooperation; establish a digital partnership, particularly in cross-border e-commerce and digital transformation; jointly combat transnational crimes and cybercrime; support IT businesses; and enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges, aviation connectivity, and local connections.
The two sides compared notes on regional and international issues of common concern and agreed to intensify cooperation and consolidate solidarity and central role of ASEAN over security matters in the region, including the East Sea issue.
Both sides also agreed to promote sustainable and balanced development across sub-regions in the area, including the Mekong sub-region.
Prime Minister Pham suggested Indonesia continue close collaboration with Viet Nam in maintaining the ASEAN's solidarity, common positions and achievements regarding the East Sea issue, in promoting substantial and effective negotiations on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Pham took the occasion to invite Indonesia to attend the ASEAN Future Forum and the Partnering for Green Growth & the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit hosted by Viet Nam next year.
