U.S. urged to open door for Vietnamese goods

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested Viet Nam and the U.S. cooperate to quickly realize agreements reached by their high-ranking leaders, including the U.S. priority of accelerating the recognition of Viet Nam’s market economy status and further opening door for Vietnamese goods.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister made the request on September 19 (local time) during a meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai in Washington D.C.

Pham asked the U.S. to facilitate import of Vietnamese exports, including garments-textiles, footwear and farm produce and not imposing trade remedies on Vietnamese goods on the basis of ensuring fairness and mutual benefits.

He also suggested the two countries foster cooperation in science, technology, education-training and the U,S. help Viet Nam build a semiconductor-related supply chain.

For her part, Trade Representative Tai emphasized the importance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established during President Joe Biden's Viet Nam visit.

The U.S, said the Trade Representative, always considers Viet Nam an important partner in the region, and hopes for stronger economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

She also pledged the Office of the Trade Representative will play a bigger role in enhancing the bilateral relations in the time ahead.

Tai also expected Viet Nam would continue supporting efforts to soon conclude the discussion of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), in the interest of countries and people in the region./.
