Over US$42 million allocated to Yagi-hit localities

VGP - The Central Relief Mobilization Committee have allocated VND1.035 trillion (US$42.1 million) to support northern localities suffering heavy damage caused by Typhoon Yagi and floods.

Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces received the largest amount with VND180 billion (US$7.3 million) and VND130 billion (US$5.3 million), respectively.

It was followed by Cao Bang and Lang Son provinces with VND80 billion (US$$3.3 million) each, and Tuyen Quang and Phu Tho provinces with VND55 billion (US$2.2 million) each.

The remaining localities include Bac Giang and Quang Ninh provinces and Hai Phong City each receiving VND50 billion (over US$2 million); Son La and Bac Kan each VND40 billion (US$1.6 million), Thai Nguyen and Hoa Binh each VND30 billion (US$1.2 million), Hung Yen and Ha Giang each VND25 billion (US$1 million); Dien Bien, Thai Binh and Hai Duong each VND20 billion (US$815,000); and Lai Chau VND15 billion (US$610,000).

Ha Noi was allocated VND10 billion (US$407,000), while Vinh Phuc, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Bac Ninh each received VND5 billion (US$204,000).

As of 5 p.m. on September 16, organizations and individuals transferred VND1.236 trillion (nearly US$50.3 million) to the account of the Central Relief Mobilization Committee.

The list of donors will be regularly updated and publicized through the mass media.

As of September 15, typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm hitting Viet Nam this year, left 350 people dead and missing, and other 2,000 people injured in northern Viet Nam.

The initially estimated economic damage has reached VN40 trillion (US$1.6 billion), according to Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung.

The typhoon damaged 168,000 houses and other 73,248 houses were submerged under flood water.

In the agricultural sector, the typhoon caused extensive damages to 183,000 ha of rice paddies, 44,000 ha of other crops, 23,661 hectares of fruit trees.

Around 2,250 aquaculture cages have been destroyed or swept away and 9,000 livestock and nearly 2 million poultry have perished.

Super Typhoon Yagi triggered landslides in Northern Viet Nam over the past days, causing widespread destruction across 26 coastal and northern provinces./.
