Power supply, communication resumed to over 90% residents in Yagi-hit localities
VGP – Power supply and communication service have been resumed to more than 90 percent residents in typhoon Yagi-hit localities, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In its report released on Monday, the ministry said 8,386 out of 9,235 BTS stations have been restored.
Power supply has been resumed to 92.5 percent customers, mainly in Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen and other mountainous provinces.
The storm damaged 6,285 BTS stations, leading to communication disruptions, and left approximately six million people without electricity in several northern localities.
Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit mainland in 70 years, has caused devastating consequences in 26 northern provinces, which account for over 41 per cent of the country's GDP and 40 per cent of the population.
The country's GDP growth in the third quarter may suffer a decrease of 0.35 per cent, and by 0.22 per cent in the fourth quarter. For the entire year, GDP could decline by 0.15 per cent compared to the earlier growth scenario of 6.8-7 per cent.
The GRDP growth rate in 2024 for worst-hit localities such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, and Lao Cai is expected to decrease by over 0.5 per cent.
The typhoon's preliminary total damage is estimated at around VND40 trillion or around US$1.6 billion, said Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung./.
