Viet Nam receives Japan's emergency relief for Typhoon Yagi victims
VGP - VGP - The Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief package worth US$124,096 to help Viet Nam overcome the consequences of typhoon Yagi.
Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh, Deputy director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), on Sunday received aid from the Embassy of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi on September 15.
The relief package includes 40 water purifiers, 200 multi-purpose plastic tarpaulins. The goods were transferred to the northern province of Yen Bai on the same day to help people affected by Typhoon Yagi.
Sugano Yuichi, JICA Chief Representative in Viet Nam said, "We have managed to hand over the emergency aid with the hope of being able to deliver it to the affected people as soon as possible."
According to the reports from the Standing Office of National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control – Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA), Yen Bai province is one of the localities hardest hit by Yagi, the strongest storm this year.
In his message, Prime Minister of Japan Kishida Fumio offered encouragement to storm victims, expressing his hope that the affected localities would soon weather difficulties and restore production. He emphasized that the Japanese Government always accompanies and is ready to support Viet Nam to tackle the typhoon's aftermath.
Previously, Iain Frew, British Ambassador to Viet Nam, confirmed that the British Government will provide one million pounds in humanitarian aid to help Viet Nam overcome the consequences of natural disasters.
So far, MARD received support from ten embassies and 16 international organizations with a commitment to supply 160 tons of goods by air.
From last Wednesday to Saturday, the MARD received one aid shipment from the Australian Government and three shipments from the ASEAN Regional Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management and then transferred to Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces./.
