India delivers 35 tons of humanitarian relief supplies to Viet Nam's Yagi victims
VGP - Within the framework of the Operation Sadbhav (Goodwill), the Indian Government delivered 35 tons of emergency relief supplies worth US$1 billion to the Government of Viet Nam on September 15.
The relief supplies consist of essential items like water filters/purifiers. water containers, blankets kitchen utensils and solar lanterns based on the needs of affected communities and feedback from authorities.
Ambassador of India to Viet Nam Sandeep Arya handed over the relief supplies to Director General, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Viet Nam for its National Disaster and Dyke Management Authority and representatives of Tuyen Quang province.
Mr. Sandeep Arya referred to widely-felt sympathy among the Indian community for people affected by Typhoon Yagi and noted that Indian businesses and community members have separately extended their support and contribution at various levels to the affected people and Vietnamese authorities.
Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed sympathies and solidarity on behalf of the Government and the people of India to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar also extended his sympathies to Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on the loss and damage caused by the typhoon.
The Governments of Australia, the U.S., Japan, Switzerland, the South Korea also pledged to support Viet Nam overcome the consequences of typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm this year./.
