Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets UN Secretary-General, Australian counterpart in South Africa

VGP – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the UN agencies would assist Viet Nam in overcoming the consequences caused by recent devastating floods in central region.

Guterres made the above statement during his meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in South Africa on November 22 (local time).

The Secretary-General also promised to continue support and assistance for Viet Nam in its next development era, particularly in coping with climate change and realizing sustainable development goals.

Prime Minister Pham, for his side, appreciated the UN and Guterres' support and assistance for Viet Nam. He also voiced support for Guterres' approach and viewpoints on reforming the international financial system, promoting green transition, and narrowing development gap.

The same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, during which the latter expressed sympathy to Vietnamese people over the great loss caused by recent natural disasters in several central localities.

Albanese also expressed his strong belief that the Vietnamese people would soon overcome the consequences of natural disasters. He called on the two countries to strengthen cooperation in dealing with climate change and contributing to the international community's efforts against climate change.

Australia pledged to maintain ODA for Viet Nam, particularly in such areas like climate change adaptation, energy transition, digital transformation, and circular economy, said Albanese.

He also affirmed his country's support for Viet Nam to successfully undertake the role as the Chair of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and to successfully host the APEC Year in 2027.

For his side, Pham extended sincere thanks to the Government of Australia for offering AUD3 million in humanitarian aid for Viet Nam to overcome the consequences of recent natural disasters.

He suggested both countries continue effective implementation of the action program to realize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership while maintaining dialogue and consultation mechanisms to increasingly consolidate mutual understanding and political trust./.
