President of Cambodian Senate begins official visit to Viet Nam
VGP - President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Say Chhum landed in Ha Noi on Monday morning, starting his three-day official visit to Viet Nam.
The visit is made at the invitation of Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue.
This is part of a series of events to mark the “Viet Nam - Cambodia, Cambodia – Viet Nam Friendship Year”, and the 55th founding anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967-June 24, 2022).
The Cambodian Senate leader’s visit is a chance for the two sides to discuss and evaluate the cooperation between the two legislative bodies over the year, contributing to reinforcing and promoting the sound neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
This is the first direct meeting between Samdech Say Chhum and NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bilateral ties between Viet Nam and Cambodia have developed stably.
After the two countries reopened their doors post the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, the exchange of delegations at all levels has increased, and the two countries have coordinated closely in organizing a series of activities in celebration of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, and the 45th anniversary of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s journey to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
Particularly, two-way trade touched US$ 9.54 billion in 2021, representing a year-on-year of 79.1 percent, and US$ 7.08 billion in the first seven months of this year, up 17.8 percent in comparison with the same period last year.
So far, Viet Nam has had 188 valid investment projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of US$2.8 billion, making Viet Nam the top ASEAN investor in Cambodia and one of the biggest foreign investors in the neighboring country.
Regarding the relations between the two legislative bodies, over the years, the relationship has been well developed on both bilateral and multilateral levels. The two sides have maintained and well implemented the Cooperation Agreement between the two Parliaments signed in May 2019./.
