Addressing the event, Prime Minister Pham underscored the vital role of women in Vietnamese culture, describing them as the backbone of every family. He emphasized that Vietnamese women have long been respected and today enjoy equal access to all fields of work.
Reflecting on Viet Nam's journey over the past 80 years—through immense sacrifices and the lasting impacts of war—Pham highlighted the country's remarkable development achievements, attributing a significant part of this progress to the tireless efforts of women.
He reiterated that the Communist Party of Viet Nam remains steadfast to its mission to secure national independence, freedom, and prosperity for the people—an effort in which women have made indispensable contributions.
Viet Nam has been recognized among the world's top 10 countries for implementing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on gender equality and women's empowerment. Women currently make up 30.26 percent of the 15th National Assembly, surpassing global and regional averages and placing Viet Nam at the forefront among ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) members.
The Prime Minister also noted that Viet Nam is a leading country in terms of women's participation in UN peacekeeping operations, with women accounting for 16 percent of deployed personnel. Uniquely, Viet Nam observes two national days annually to honor women: International Women's Day (March 8) and the founding anniversary of the Viet Nam Women's Union (October 20).
He reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting women's role and contributions across all sectors, including labor, national defense, and economic development. Pham paid tribute to exemplary female diplomats such as former Vice President and former Foreign Minister Nguyen Thi Binh, while encouraging current female diplomats to continue contributing to the shared goals of the United Nations and the development objectives of their respective countries.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed that female diplomats today take great pride in the proud traditions of the diplomatic sector and in the exemplary figures who came before them. They are committed to keeping alive the flame of passion and the spirit of service, continuously striving to learn and innovate, contributing to writing new glorious chapters in the sector's history, driving the country's breakthrough development in a new era, and strengthening the country's growing relations with other countries and international organizations.
UN Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam Pauline Tamesis highlighted the pioneering role of Vietnamese female diplomats. "Vietnamese women have made significant contributions across fields, particularly in positioning Viet Nam as a shining example of peace and progress," she added.
Pauline Tamesis said that within just a decade, Viet Nam has substantially improved its ranking on the global gender equality index and has strongly promoted the UN agenda on gender equality and women's rights./.
