Ninth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians opens in Ha Noi

VGP - The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, themed “The Role of Young People in Promoting the Realisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) via Digital Transformation and Innovations", kick-started in Ha Noi on September 15.

Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue at the Ninth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu trong, President Vo Van Thuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh separately sent flowers to congratulate the conference.

The event drew the attendance of President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco, IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, President of the Board of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians Dan Carden and President of the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians Cynthia Lopez Castro.

On the Vietnamese side, Chairman of the Viet Nam National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man partook in the conference.

The event, scheduled to take place from September 14-18, gathers nearly 500 delegates, including 300 international delegates from 70 IPU member parliaments and international organizations.

Addressing the opening ceremony, top Vietnamese legislator Vuong Dinh Hue said that Viet Nam was honored to host the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.

He said that young people are the driving force and the bearers of “historical responsibilities” in the international integration and national development efforts of each country as well as global prosperity.

He took the occasion to urge the young parliamentarians to utilise their intelligence, youth, creativity, and enthusiasm to contribute positively to the success of the conference.

Vuong suggested the delegates to pay attention to five key points, namely: (i) compliance with international law and the United Nations Charter for crucial condition for the maintenance and nurturing of peace, cooperation, and sustainable development; (ii) the role of developed countries, international organizations, business communities, and youth in addressing global issues; (iii) making people and businesses truly the center of all policies in the development process, (iv) leveraging the values of culture and human beings in sustainable development, promoting the respect for cultural diversity in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and enhance cooperation in innovating the operation of the economy, and (v) establishment of a global network of young parliamentarians.

The conference comprises three primary sessions dealing with “Digital Transformation”, “Innovation and Startups”, and “Promoting Respect for Cultural Diversity in Support of Sustainable Development"./.
