The Government chief made the request on December 14 while visiting the construction site of Long Thanh International Airport, Viet Nam's largest aviation infrastructure project, located in Dong Nai province, about 40 km east of the Southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City.

It is expected that the airport will conduct a technical test flight on December 15 and operate its first official flight on December 19, 2025.

Pham commended units, contractors, and especially 15,000 experts, engineers, and workers, for speeding up the project's construction to meet the schedule.

So far, the first sub-project is nearing completion and entering its final phase, expected to be ready by December 19, while the second is also in the finishing stage, with equipment being installed to serve the first flight in line with the overall project schedule.

The Prime Minister noted that only three of 15 packages have been completed while 12 remain under construction. He urged accelerating the completion of key components - particularly runways, connecting roads, passenger terminals, and taxiways - to ensure construction is basically completed for the inaugural flight on December 19.

The leader also inspected the fourth sub-project, which covers ground service facilities. He showed satisfaction with investors' active efforts to prepare for the first phase's operations.

Developed by the Airports Corporation of Viet Nam, construction of the Long Thanh international airport is divided into two phases, with Phase 1 designed to handle about 25 million passengers per year and expected to begin operations in 2026. When fully completed, the airport is planned to have a capacity of up to 100 million passengers annually, playing a key role in turning Viet Nam into a major regional aviation hub./.
