Int'l flight passengers skyrocket nearly 500% in January-June
VGP - Nearly 15 million foreign passengers travelled to/from Vietnamese airports in the first half of this year, up 493.5 percent compared to the same period last year, reported the Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV).
According to the ACV, during January-June, Vietnamese airports served 56.8 million passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of 29.2 percent.
Of the figure, local passengers hit nearly 42.4 million, up 2 percent.
In the reviewed period, foreign and domestic airlines launched around 365,000 flights, up 18 percent, of which 99,200 were international flights, up more than 150 percent against the same period last year.
As the number of visitors from China, South Korea and Japan return to pre-COVID normal, Viet Nam sees a recovery in international aviation.
With tourism gradually picking up steam, Vietnamese airlines have been scrambling to launch direct flights to major markets such as South Korea, Japan, India, and Australia.
Last year, Vietnamese airports handled 99 million passengers, increasing by 228 percent compared to the previous year, with 12 million international passengers and 87 million domestic ones.
