VGP - As of October 2025, Viet Nam has formulated comprehensive strategic partnership with 14 countries. The comprehensive strategic partnership framework is the highest tier in Viet Nam's diplomatic hierarchy.
These countries are China, the Russian Federation, India, South Korea, the United States, Japan, Australia, France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and the UK.
The UK is the latest country that has set up comprehensive strategic partnership with Viet Namuring during General Secretary To Lam's official visit to the UK from October 28-30.
Viet Nam elevated ties to the top tier with China in 2008, the Russian Federation in 2012, India in 2016, South Korea in 2022, the U.S. inSeptember 2023, Japan in November 2023, Australia in March 2024, France in October 2024, Malaysia in November 2024, New Zealand in February 2025, Indonesia in March 10, 2025, Singapore in March 12, 2025, Thailand in May 16, 2025.
Today, Viet Nam has comprehensive strategic partnerships with all five permanent members of the UN Security Council namely China, France, Russia, the UK and the U.S.
