The ministry urged provincial and municipal health departments to rashly review vaccination rollout, finalize administration of third jabs for over 18-year-old population, second shots for 5-11 year-old children in August.

The ministry asked local health departments to give the fourth doses to eligible people aged 18 years and older.

In addition, it also requested local health departments to develop specific plans to inject third jabs to people aged 12-17.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong announced that up to now, the World Health Organization and countries have identified vaccines as the most effective measure to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic.

Currently there is no scientific evidence to confirm that the Covid-19 vaccine has long-term effects on people's health while the effectiveness of the vaccine decreases relatively quickly. Therefore, to maintain the protective effect, it is necessary to get the third and fourth doses, Nguyen added.

To date, Viet Nam has administered 227,753,376 COVID-19 vaccine doses./.
