Ha Noi expects to cooperate with WB in urban metro development
VGP - Ha Noi hopes that the World Bank will continue to support and cooperate with the city to implement the ten urban metro lines, said Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh.
The Chairman made the statement at a reception for Carolyn Turk, World Bank Country Director to Viet Nam on October 25.
He applauded the bank’s proactive and effective support for the capital city over the past years, including its provision of loans worth US$270 million for 11 projects on clean water supply, wastewater treatment and public transportation construction.
Tran informed that the city has envisaged major objectives for energy transition, smart transportation, environmental protection, and waste treatment.
Particularly, the city sets goal to increase the rate of urban buses using clean energy to 50% by the end of this decade and 100% by 2050, he said.
He promised that Ha Noi stands ready to share information with the World Bank to facilitate their participation in initiatives relating to green and sustainable development.
In reply, Director Carolyn Turk said that during a recent meeting with World Bank President Ajay Banga, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed the World Bank should increase its support for the country, particularly in the field of urban transportation.
The WB has discussed with Vietnamese localities, including Ha Noi, to conduct specific projects, she said.
