In a official telegram addressed to Chairpersons of the provincial People’s Committees of Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Son La, Dien Bien, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, and Quang Ninh, the Government said several localities in the region have recored an average rainfall of about 100-200mm, or even nearly 400mm in some areas since August 4.

Heavy rains caused flash floods and landslides in some localities, resulting in human and property losses, especially in Lai Chau, Yen Bai, and Son La.

On behalf of the Government, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended his deepest condolences to the affected families for the losses they have suffered.

it is forecast that heavy rain would continue until August 8, with average rainfall of 50 - 120mm, even over 180mmm, posing very high risks of flood, flash flood, and landslides in the region, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Given that, the Government urged the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the National Committee for Incident and Natural Disaster Response, Search and Rescue, ministers, and chairpersons of the provincial-level People’s Committees in the region to stay vigilant to flood and landslide risks and and focus on handling the consequences.

The Government requested local authorities to evacuate people in disaster-prone places in order to minimize losses.
