General Secretary To Lam holds phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump

VGP - General Secretary To Lam has had a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on the Viet Nam-U.S. relations and reciprocal trade negotiations between the two countries.

General Secretary To Lam

The two leaders expressed their pleasure at the strong and good growth of the bilateral ties and welcomed the two countries' negotiation delegations to have reached a Joint Statement on a fair, balanced reciprocal trade agreement.

President Trump highly valued Viet Nam's commitment to granting preferential market access for U.S. goods, including automobiles with large-displacement engines.

Trump affirmed that the U.S. will significantly reduce reciprocal tariffs on many imports from Viet Nam, and will continue to work with Viet Nam to resolve outstanding trade-related issues, particularly in priority areas of both sides.

General Secretary To urged the U.S. to soon recognize Viet Nam as a market economy and lift export restrictions on certain high-tech products.

The two leaders also discussed major directions and measures to promote the Viet Nam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the years to come. 

The pair agreed to step up delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, and promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment, particularly in key and breakthrough areas such as science and high technology.

General Secretary To took the occasion to reiterated his invitation to President Trump and his spouse to visit Viet Nam and expressed his wish to meet Trump again in the near future.
