Deputy Prime Minister meets with Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent

At his meeting with Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc affirmed Viet Nam attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the U.S., and wishes to promote bilateral economic and trade relations in a balanced, harmonious and sustainable manner.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc spoke highly of the agreement reached by the two countries to initiate negotiations on a reciprocal trade deal, calling on the two sides to begin negotiations to soon reach the deal.

Secretary Scott Bessent said Viet Nam has taken positive measures to address the issues concerned by the U.S., saying that the U.S. Administration has appointed him as head of the negotiating delegation with Viet Nam.

Secretary Scott Bessent expressed his belief that the two countries would soon reach proper solutions to advance mutually beneficial economic and trade relations.

He also promised to coordinate closely with Viet Nam in the negotiation process.

During his meeting with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc underscored the significance of the two countries' agreement to initiate negotiations on a reciprocal trade deal.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc expressed his pleasure to witness the positive development of the Viet Nam-U.S. relationship over the past 30 years.

He expected that both countries would continue close collaboration to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in which economic, trade and investment cooperation is the key pillar.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested the U.S. Department of Commerce work closely with relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies during the negotiation process.

Secretary Howard Lutnick affirmed that the U.S. attaches great importance to the relationship with Viet Nam, saying Viet Nam is a highly potential economy and an important partner of the U.S.
