General Secretary To Lam holds phone conversation with President Donald Trump

VGP - On the evening of 04 April 2025, His Excellency To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam had a phone call with The Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America on the Viet Nam – U.S. relations.

General Secretary To Lam

General Secretary To Lam highly welcomed the exchange, during which the two leaders reiterated their wish to further bolster bilateral cooperation for the benefits of both countries, and contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world. The two leaders also shared the view that the relationship between Viet Nam and the U.S. has been thriving in many areas.

Regarding bilateral trade ties, the two leaders discussed the means to step up trade cooperation between the two sides, in which General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Viet Nam stood ready to negotiate with the U.S. to reduce the tariffs on U.S. exports to Viet Nam to 0%, and requested the U.S. to do the same for Vietnamese exports to the U.S. General Secretary To Lam also said that Viet Nam would continue to import more goods from the U.S., and create more favorable conditions for American companies to further invest in Viet Nam.

The two leaders also agreed to maintain discussions to soon sign an agreement between the two countries to realize the aforementioned commitments.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam extended a cordial invitation to President Donald Trump and the First Lady to pay a visit to Viet Nam once again at their earliest convenience. President Donald Trump gladly accepted this invitation, and expressed his wish to soon meet with General Secretary To Lam again. President Donald Trump also asked General Secretary To Lam to convey his warmest greetings to the leaders and people of Viet Nam.
