Viet Nam 'regrets' U.S. Administration's decision to impose reciprocal tariffs
Viet Nam regrets the U.S. Administration's decision to impose reciprocal tariffs on Vietnamese exports to the U.S., said Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang
Pham made the above statement on Friday in response to reporters' query regarding Viet Nam's reaction to the U.S. decision to impose a 46 percent tariff on imports from Viet Nam.
Pham said that the above decision is not consistent with the reality of mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, does not reflect the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, stability, cooperation and development.
Such decision negatively impacts the bilateral economic and trade and the interest of the people and businesses of the two countries if applied, she said.
In recent times, Viet Nam has actively exchanged and discussed specific measures with the U.S. to remove obstacles, promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation, towards fair and sustainable trade and harmonizing the interests of both sides, she added.
Viet Nam will continue to coordinate and discuss with the U.S. in a constructive and cooperative spirit to seek practical solutions, contributing to advancing the bilateral economic relations in a stable and sustainable manner, meeting the interests of the people and businesses of the two countries, said the Spokesperson.
Earlier on Thursday morning, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh convened a meeting to discuss immediate and long-term measures after the U.S. Administration announced universal tariff range from 10- 49 percent country by country.
The Prime Minister emphasized the current situation shows that trade competition is becoming more fierce, complicated and unpredictable.
Viet Nam hopes that the U.S. would have a policy that is consistent with the good relations between the two countries, the wishes of the people of both sides and Viet Nam's efforts in recent times, in line with the conditions and circumstances of Viet Nam as a developing country, still having to continue to overcome the severe and prolonged war consequences, said Prime Minister Pham.
The Government chief requested immediate establishment of a rapid response team on this issue headed by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son.
The Government chief assigned Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc to direct ministries and agencies to collect opinions from businesses, including large export enterprises.
He also reiterated the Government's GDP growth target of at least 8 percent for 2025 remains unchanged./.
