Deputy PM attends Asia Zero Emissions Community Ministerial Meeting

VGP - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed Viet Nam’s commitments and efforts in responding to climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing renewable energy share while attending the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo, Japan on March 4.

Addressing the event, Tran welcomed the initiative of Japan in organizing the event, which aims to promote intergovernmental cooperation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to regional sustainable development.

He called on countries to work together and establish specific mechanisms including carbon credits, a research and technology transfer center, a scientific research support fund and a high-quality human resource training center in the region.

Tran called for taking measures to reduce emissions while ensuring energy security for State, people and enterprises to get access to clean energy with reasonable price.

He stressed the significance of digital transformation to strengthen exchanges and dialogues on policies and technique and create consensus and a common voice between countries.

The meeting adopted joint statement which sets out cooperation orientations in just, inclusive, sustainable and affordable energy transition in Asia.

The meeting attracted the participation of Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers in charge of natural resources and environment, energy, mines and economy from Japan, ASEAN, Australia and leaders from international and regional organizations.
