Culture, sports, and tourism festival of Khmer people opens in Soc Trang
VGP - The eighth Culture, sports, and tourism festival of the Khmer people in the Southern region opened in Soc Trang province on November 6.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Do Van Chien, called on all levels of Party committees and Socio-political organizations effectively implement the essential tasks and solutions in the speech of the General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference (November 2021).
Besides, he said that the culture of ethnic minorities was a valuable heritage, contributing to Vietnamese culture's richness, diversity and unity and thus, calling on the Khmer ethnic community to make more efforts to safeguard and promote their unique traditional culture.
He also stressed that preserving the cultural identities of ethnic minorities, including those of the Khmer people, is a significant political task in fostering national integration and development.
The three-day festival, taking place until November 8, attracted the participation of more than 2,000 Khmer ethnic artisans, artists and performers from 12 Southern cities and provinces.
Visitors to the event can enjoy beautiful folk melodies, charming folk dances, drum performances, and traditional stage plays of the Khmer ethnic community.
Besides, the Ok Om Bok (moon-worshipping) Festival and a boat race were organized on occasion.
