Construction begins on new energy battery plant in Hue

The new energy battery plant is located at KIM LONG MOTOR Automotive Manufacturing and Assembly Industrial Park in Hue, with comprehensive technical and technological support and transfer from BYD Group, a world-leading enterprise in the field of batteries and new energy vehicles.
The plant's products will include battery lines for trucks, buses, minivans, minibuses, and other vehicles, meeting the rapidly growing demand of the Vietnamese market and aiming for export to other countries with top-quality batteries, as well as commercial vehicles produced by KIM LONG MOTOR under "Made in Viet Nam" brand.
KIM LONG MOTOR is pioneering in research, development, and production of a 34-seat EV sleeper bus model, applying modern BYD battery technology. This is the first new-energy interprovincial sleeper bus serving the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian markets, marking an important breakthrough in promoting the development of green and sustainable transportation.
The first phase of the project, built on 4.4 hectares of roofed factory area, is designed to become one of the leading electric vehicle battery manufacturing plants, with a capacity of 3 GWh per year and high technology—not only in Viet Nam but also across Asia.
In the second phase, Kim Long MOTOR will develop battery lines for passenger cars, with a roofed factory area of 10 hectares, raising the total capacity to 6 GWh per year.
Addressing the ceremony, General Director of KIM LONG MOTOR Dao Viet Anh highlighted the significance of the project, which aims to concretize the Party's and the State's guidelines and policies on developing high-tech industries, promoting the green transition, and enhancing the strategic self-reliance capacity of the economy.
The project also affirms KIM LONG MOTOR's commitment and long-term strategic vision to master the manufacturing value chain, gradually shifting from processing and assembly to research, development, and manufacturing of core automotive technology components, he added.
Once operational, the BYD battery manufacturing plant will help the company realize its goal of achieving a localization rate of over 80 percent by the second quarter of 2026, and gradually form a regional-scale battery and electric vehicle manufacturing hub, Dao emphasized./.
