Airbus Group selects Viet Nam as key civil helicopter market

The Executive Vice President made the above statement a meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha in Ha Noi on March 20.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly valued cooperation between Airbus and its Vietnamese partners, especially in terms of technology, management, and products.

He suggested Airbus assist Viet Nam in designing aviation industry development plans, manpower training, technology transfer, production of spare parts and equipment and involvement in the global value chain of the European aerospace giant.

In reply, Mr. Olivier Michalon said Viet Nam is one of Airbus' key civil helicopter markets.

In the coming time, the group will invest in research, technology transfer, training of pilots and engineers, operation, maintenance of new-generation helicopters for Viet Nam.

Airbus is a leading aircraft supplier of airlines in Viet Nam, with more than 220 in the fleets of Viet Nam-based carriers and another 110 on order for future delivery, the European giant said.

The expansion of Airbus' supply chain in Viet Nam will also contribute to the economic development of the country. So far, the air transport sector creates 2.2 million jobs and contributes US$12.5 billion in gross value or 5.2 percent to its GDP.

In 2023, Viet Nam’s total passenger transport market is expected to reach approximately 74 million passengers, a 34.5 percent increase over 2022 but a 7.4 percent decrease from 2019.

Of this, international transport is estimated at 32 million passengers, 1.7 times higher than 2022 and 77 per cent compared to 2019; domestic transport is projected at 42 million passengers, a 3 per cent decrease against 2022 but a 12 percent increase compared to 2019./.
