A boost for cultural industry development
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed a directive outlining tasks for the development of the country's cultural industries.
Under the directive, the Government targets to position Viet Nam as a major player in the field, aligning with contemporary trends and unlocking culture potential for socio-economic growth.
Cultural industries worldwide are rapidly expanding, recognized as a sustainable force driving resource pooling, competitive advantages and positive contributions to national branding and economic development, according to the directive.
Thanks to rich cultural heritage and burgeoning creative scene, Viet Nam is able to capitalize on this momentum.
The Prime Minister tasked ministries, ministry-level and Government agencies to raise their awareness of the position, role, and importance of cultural industries for socio-economic development and promotion of Vietnamese culture.
Strong leadership and a targeted approach are essential to steer this strategic effort effectively, stressed the Prime Minister.
He urged relevant authorities to review and propose amendments to legal documents, mechanisms and policies.
The directive specifies that priority areas include investment incentives, public-private partnerships, taxation, credit access, technological application, data system development, and administrative reform linked with digital transformation.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is tasked to work with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and relevant agencies to craft a framework of criteria on cultural industries and report outcomes in Q2, 2025.
Local authorities are requested to issue policies to develop cultural industries, provide investment incentives, and build competitive and innovative local markets.
Localities, particularly those joing UNESCO Creative Cities Network, are encouraged to develop plans supporting creative spaces and cultural industry centers.
By early 2026, local authorities were required to establish dedicated sections on cultural industries on their official websites to raise public awareness and engagement.
Under the Strategy for developing Viet Nam's cultural industries, which is in place to 2030, cultural industries as encompassing 12 sectors namely advertising, architecture, software and entertainment games, handicrafts, design, cinema, publishing, fashion, performing arts, fine arts, photography and exhibition, television and radio broadcasting, and cultural tourism.
So far, six out of the 12 cultural sectors are experiencing significant growth such as cinema, crafts, design, performing arts, cultural tourism, and entertainment software and games./.
