Prime Minister receives UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Trade

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday hosted a reception for Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the United Arab Emirates' Minister of State for Foreign Trade who is on a working visit to Viet Nam to promote negotiations for a comprehensive economic partnership agreement.

Prime Minister Pham highly spoke of the second visit of the Minister of State to Viet Nam in 2023. 

The two sides agreed that both Viet Nam and the UAE share similarities including over US$ 400 billion of GDP scale, and high economic growth rates. In addition, the two countries have shifted their focus to trade and service development and are interested in signings new FTAs. 

Last year, bilateral two-way trade turnover hit over US$ 4.4 billion. 

Prime Minister Pham proposed the UAE work with Viet Nam's Ministry of Industry and Trade to finalize negotiations on the Viet Nam-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). 

“The two sides should work towards negotiating an agreement on investment and the another on labor and raise trade turnover in a more balanced direction in the spirit of win-win, harmonious benefits as well as shared risks,” he said.                                                                                                  The Prime Minister suggested the two sides actively coordinate to organize the 5th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee in 2023.

The UAE actively supports Viet Nam in establishing cooperation mechanisms on certification, building inspection centers, training human resources, and investing in Halal food production. 

The host leader also proposed the two sides closely work to organize people-to-people exchange and cultural events to consolidate mutual understandings. 

In reply, the Minister of State highlighted that Viet Nam remains an important partner of the UAE in the region. 

The UAE, said Mr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, expects to cooperate with Viet Nam in trade and investment, especially energy, renewable energy, water consumption efficiency, sea ports, healthcare and high-quality labor export./.
