Phan reiterated that the upgrade of the Viet Nam-Singapore relations into a comprehensive strategic partnership last March marked a historic milestone, opening up a new chapter in the bilateral ties, especially in the field of defense cooperation.

He noted with pleasure at the positive, comprehensive, and substantive results of bilateral defense cooperation, significantly contributing to strengthening political trust between the two countries.

Cooperation in armed forces, security, maritime safety, and training continues to be a bright spot, he said, adding that both sides have actively supported each other at various forums and multilateral mechanisms.

Phan expressed thanks to the Singaporean Ministry of Defense for awarding scholarships for specialized training and language courses to the Viet Nam's Ministry of National Defense and for welcoming Vietnamese naval, maritime police, and border guard officers to work at the Information Fusion Center (IFC).

He called on both sides to foster collaboration in military affairs and medicine, increase young officer exchanges, and enhance mutual support at multilateral defense and security forums within ASEAN as well as international events organized by each side.

Chan, for his part, urged the two sides to further promote bilateral defense cooperation in commensurate with the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The guest affirmed the willingness to welcome more officers of the Viet Nam People's Army for training in Singapore, underlining the need to strengthen consultation and dialogue mechanisms, especially toward the success of the upcoming Defense Policy Dialogue to be held in Viet Nam./.
