Vietnamese seedless lychees available at UK supermarkets for first time
VGP - The first official-channel shipment of Vietnamese seedless lychee imported by the TT Meridian Ltd arrived in the United Kingdom (UK) on June 16.
Previously, many specialty fruits of Viet Nam were also present in the UK market such as Tan Lac red grapefruit, Dien Yen Thuy grapefruit, and Cao Phong orange.
This presence shows the remarkable progress of Vietnamese fruit producers and exporters due to meeting Global GAP product quality and production process standards.
Currently, with many items being taxed to 0 percent under the UK-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), many other local agricultural products are expected to be imported by the UK in the near future.
A wholesale price for a kilo of seedless lychee in the UK stands at roughly £16-18.
According to the plan, around one ton of seedless lychees will be exported to the UK in June and July this year.
Fruit and vegetable export turnover rose 29 percent year-on-year to US$1.9 billion in the first five months of this year, according to the Viet Nam Fruit Association.
It is expected that the total export turnover of vegetables and fruits this year could be over US$4 billion.
Viet Nam earned nearly $3.4 billion from vegetable and fruit exports last year./.
