The attendance of the Vietnamese Head of State at the funeral represents the recognition of the former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's contributions to promoting the two countries' relations, affirming the importance of the extensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Japan, said Ms. Le.

According to the Spokesperson, during his time in office, the late Japanese PM visited Viet Nam four times and made important contributions to promoting the development of the two countries' relations in all fields.

President Nguyen is expected to join the main activities of the State funeral and meet with the family of the deceased Prime Minister, as well as Japanese and world leaders.

On July 11, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sent a wreath of flowers to late Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo.

On behalf of senior Vietnamese leaders, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh came to pay homage and wrote in the book of condolences at the Japanese Embassy in Viet Nam.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue also sent a wreath of flowers to pay tribute to the late Japanese PM.

The former Japanese Prime Minister was assassinated by a 41-year-old man on the morning of July 8, 2022, while delivering a campaign speech for a Liberal Democratic Party candidate in Nara City.
