Viet Nam’s population exceeds 100 million mark
VGP - Viet Nam’s population was estimated at 100.3 million in 2023, ranking third in Southeast Asia after Indonesia and the Philippines and 15th in the world, reported the General Statistics Office.
Of the figure, 49.9 percent were male and 50.1 percent were female.
The number of people living in urban areas hit 38.2 million, making up 38.1 percent of the total population.
Viet Nam's fertility rate in the year was 1.96 children per woman and the sex ratio at birth was 112 boys/100 girls.
The crude death rate was estimated at approximately 5.5 per thousand inhabitants, an average level compared to the region.
The infant mortality rate was 12 deaths per 1000 live births, lower than the figure recorded in other nations in the world and Asia, reflecting the better quality and effectiveness of the maternity health care system for mothers and children in particular, as well as the conditions for comprehensive socio-economic development in general.
The nation's under-5 mortality rate has dropped over the recent years, from 18.9 deaths per 1000 live births in 2022 to 18.2 in 2023.
The life expectancy was 73.7 in 2023, with the life expectancy for male and female at 71.1 and 76.5, respectively, only behind Singapore (83), Brunei (78) and Thailand (76)./.
