Viet Nam’s consistent policy is to prohibit all forms of forced labor
VGP - The findings of the U.S. Trade Representative’s investigation into forced labor practices do not accurately reflect the reality in Viet Nam or the Southeast Asian nation’s efforts to prevent and minimize forced labor, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang told reporters.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang
Pham made the above statement at the ministry's press briefing held on Thursday, regarding the U.S. Trade Representative's proposal of fresh tariffs on 60 economies, including Viet Nam, based on the conclusion that these economies have not enacted or effectively enforced measures to prevent the import of goods produced with forced labor, thereby impeding U.S. trade.
The diplomat said, Viet Nam's consistent policy is to prohibit all forms of forced labor and strictly comply with the regulations of the International Labor Organization (ILO) as well as the labor-related commitments contained in free trade agreements.
This policy is clearly stipulated in legal documents, government programs, and action plans, and is effectively implemented in practice, she noted.
In recent years, Viet Nam has ratified relevant international conventions to ensure the full implementation of workers' rights and obligations, she said, adding that the nation has also provided the U.S. with comprehensive and detailed information throughout the course of the investigation.
On that basis, Viet Nam has been, is, and will continue to engage in dialogue and work with the U.S. in a constructive and cooperative spirit to address outstanding issues in accordance with the bilateral and multilateral trade commitments of both sides, while continuing to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of workers and businesses, Pham underlined./.
