Viet Nam's 5G network covers 26% of population
VGP - Up to 26 percent of Viet Nam’s population can access to 5G services, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology. The current network of 5G base stations accounts for approximately 7.7 percent of the total number of 4G stations.

The Ministry of Information and Communications targets to raise 5G coverage rate to 99 percent of Vietnamese population by 2025
The country's three leading telecom operators—Viettel, VNPT, and MobiFone—have deployed around 11,000 5G base stations nationwide. These providers are ramping up infrastructure development and expanding their subscriber base, with plans to scale up 5G services across the country.
Despite these efforts, 5G adoption in Viet Nam remains limited. Deployment is still concentrated in major urban areas, while most users and businesses continue to rely on the well-established 4G network, which currently covers 99.8 percent of the population.
The Ministry of Science and Technology plans to accelerate the rollout of commercial 5G services this year. It has set a target of reaching 99 percent population coverage by the end of 2025, with a minimum data speed of 100 Mbps.
To support this goal, the government has introduced financial incentives through the National Assembly's Resolution 193. Under the policy, telecom operators that successfully install and activate at least 20,000 5G stations by the end of the year will receive a subsidy covering 15 percent of equipment costs.
Viet Nam's 5G deployment officially began with lab and pilot tests in 2019, moving to commercial trials in 2020, and launched official services in October 2024, followed by rapid expansion through early 2025./.
