Viet Nam welcomes 1.53 million foreign tourists in May

VGP - Viet Nam welcomed 1.53 million foreign visitors in May, the highest number for this month over the past ten years, according to the General Statistics Office.

June 06, 2025 2:14 PM GMT+7

In the first five months of the year, the number of foreign arrivals reached 9.2 million, up 21 percent compared to the same period last year.

Of the above figure, more than 7.4 million foreign visitors travelled to Viet Nam by air, followed by 1.2 million by road and 0.6 million by sea.

Russia was the fastest-growing tourist source market in the first five months, with an increase of 221 percent compared to the same period last year, followed by the Philippines (over 200 percent), Cambodia (over 160 percent), and India (over 134 percent).

In the January-May period,  China continued to be the largest source market, followed by South Korea, Chinese Taipei, India, the U.S., and Japan.

In 2025, the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism plans to carry out seven major international promotional campaigns, aiming to attract between 22 and 23 million international arrivals —higher than the previous record of 18 million in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

Viet Nam started waiving visas for tourists from Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland from March 1, 2025 in a bid to promote inbound tourism this year./.
