Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son made the above statement at a recent interview ahead of the top Vietnamese leader's upcoming tour to the U.S. to attend the UN Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79).

This is the first multilateral diplomatic engagement by To Lam since he was elected to new roles as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and President of Viet Nam.

This is also the first time a General Secretary and President of Viet Nam directly attends high-level sessions of the UN General Assembly.

In addition, this is a good opportunity for Viet Nam to reaffirm its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multi-lateralization and diversification of international relations, proactive international integration, and being a friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community, making positive contributions to peace, friendship, cooperation, and development in the region and the world, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

On September 13, General Secretary and President To Lam sent pre-recorded remarks to the UN Summit of the Future 2024, in which he reassured Viet Nam's goodwill to actively contribute to the Summit and to collective efforts to strengthen peace, cooperation and international solidarity with a view to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Following the UN General Assembly sessions, To Lam will pay a working visit to the U.S., which takes place also coincides with the first anniversary of the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership.

It also comes as the two countries are actively preparing for the 30th anniversary of the normalization of their diplomatic relations in 2025.

During the working visit, To Lam is expected to meet with leaders of the U.S. Administration, participate in and deliver remarks at an event marking the 30th anniversary of Viet Nam-U.S. diplomatic relations and the first anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership.

He is expected to meet with American officials, business leaders, experts, and scholars.

At these meetings, both sides will continue sticking to fundamental principles of the bilateral ties, including the respect for the UN Charter, for international law and for each other's political regimes, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The two sides will further consolidate political trust and strategic trust, meeting the aspirations of their people and contributing positively to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister./.
