Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue (L) and President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand Wan Muhamad Noor Matha (R) in, Bangkok, Thailand on December 7, 2023

The agreement was reached during their meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on December 7 on the occasion of the top Vietnamese legislator's ongoing official visit to Thailand.

This strategy aims to form new supply chains to produce high-value-added products, particularly in agriculture, contributing to food security in the region; connecting businesses and localities of the two countries, enhancing transportation links, and effectively cooperating in digital transformation in a safe and efficient manner and in the building of a green economy.

The two parliamentary leaders were pleasured to witness the robust development of the Viet Nam-Thailand bilateral strategic partnership in all areas.

In ASEAN, Thailand remains Viet Nam's largest trade partner, with the two-way trade rising to a record of nearly US$22 billion last year. Thailand is the second largest investor in Viet Nam with total registered capital of around US$14 billion.

The two leaders reiterated their determination to raise the two-way trade to US$25 billion in a more balanced manner by reducing trade barriers and creating a favorable environment for businesses from both countries to expand their operations.

The two sides agreed to beef up cooperation in other important areas such as national defence-security, maritime affairs, education-training, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange.

They also looked to expand programs teaching Thai and Vietnamese languages in each country and develop a "Two Countries, One Destination" tourism project.

On the occasion, the two legislators signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Thai House of Representatives.
