Viet Nam, Russia hold second consultation session on maritime issues

The event was co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang and Aide to the President, Chairman of the Russia Federal Maritime Council Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev.

Phan reiterated that Viet Nam highly values Russia's status as a major maritime power, while emphasizing that Viet Nam's Ministry of National Defense wishes to further promote cooperation with the Maritime Board of Russia towards a more substantive and effective manner.

Patrushev, for his part, asserted that cooperation in the maritime field plays an important role in strengthening and deepening the bilateral defense cooperation, in line with the orientation of the Viet Nam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Outstanding achievements in maritime cooperation include naval cooperation, the signing of cooperation documents, shipbuilding, marine scientific research within the framework of the Viet Nam–Russia Tropical Center for research on marine and island resources and environment, conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems and cooperation in maritime services and transportation.

Cooperation in training continues to be a highlight in the bilateral relations, including the training of naval officers, both officials noted.

Both sides pledged to continue carrying out the signed cooperation documents, strengthening ties between the two navies and promoting collaboration in training, scientific research, and maritime transport.

The two sides signed and exchanged a cooperation plan in maritime between Viet Nam's Ministry of National Defense and the Maritime Board of Russia for the 2026–2030 period./.
